Junior North American Championships 2006 Wednesday, March 1, 5:30 p.m. Pre-race meeting/draw The Junior North American Championships (JNAC) is a three-day race held at the Jeff Studdert Race Track. Mushers may compete in the one-, two-, three-, four-, six-, or eight-dog class. They will run different distances depending on class; on the third day, longer distances are run (see chart below). The Junior North American Championships will start at 11:00 A.M. on Friday and Saturday, and at 10:00 a.m. on Sunday. An Awards banquet will be held at 6:30 P.M. at the Westmark Hotel in Fairbanks. Entering Accommodations JNAC–specific Race Rules Note: All FJDMA Race Rules apply to the Junior North American Championships. To see the FJDMA Race Rules, click [here]. 1. The drawing for the Junior North American Championship (JNAC) will be held at the Mushers’ Hall on Farmers Loop Road at 5:00 P.M. on the Wednesday night before the race. It is a required meeting for all local mushers (within 30 miles of the hall). All out-of-town racers not attending the meeting must call the hall at (907) 457-6875 during the meeting, or a board member prior to the meeting, to be registered. The drawing will establish the entrant’s starting position for the first day of the race. Starting position on succeeding days will be determined by the total elapsed time. 2. All mushers must be members of FJDMA, Inc. in good standing. A musher in good standing has completed and submitted the following: • Biography Form 3. Each dog in every team entered in the JNAC shall be identified and marked by an official of FJDMA, Inc. before starting each day’s race. 4. Any dog dropped from a heat may not be entered in any following heats of the race. 5. Local mushers must have completed two preliminary races in their designated class in order to be eligible to run in the same class during the JNAC. (This condition may be waived by approval of the board). Local is defined as living within 30 miles of the hall. 6. Teams disqualified from a heat may run in subsequent heats, at the end of the field, but may not collect prizes. 7. A musher may compete in only one class. 8. A dog may only compete in one team in one class, except a dog that has raced in the 1-dog class may also race in another class. 9. JNAC races will be run in order: 8-dog, 1-dog, 2-dog, 3-dog, One Dog Class Specific Rules: 1. Only race officials are permitted on the race course. This includes all marshals and their designees. 2. Handlers are permitted 50 feet from the starting position down the
trail, and coaxing will be permitted; except for this limited assistance,
all teams will be on their own. 4. Each team will have a clear trail; the one dog class does not have a starting interval. Succeeding teams will not start until the preceding team has crossed the finish line. 5. The finishing time of the one dog team shall be when the nose of the dog crosses the finish line, unless the racer loses his sled. Then the finishing time will be when the musher crosses the finish line unaided.
